Action list templates

Action list templates define the preliminary actions that auto-load when an ECR or EC is created with a specific change type. Configure them in Settings → Action Templates.

When a coordinator selects a change type (e.g., hardware, software, mechanical) on an ECR or EC, Redline automatically loads the matching template. Each template defines a set of preliminary actions with:

  • Action type — what needs to be done
  • Department — who is responsible
  • Description — additional context

The coordinator can then include, exclude, edit, or add to these actions before the change moves forward.

Templates are organised by change type:

Change typeTypical preliminary actions
HardwareBOM review, procurement impact check, stock assessment
SoftwareVersion control update, regression test plan, deployment checklist
MechanicalDrawing update, tooling review, production impact assessment
ElectricalWiring diagram update, safety review, component sourcing
DocumentationDocument revision, approval workflow, distribution list update
ProcessProcess FMEA update, training plan, SOP revision

In Settings → Action Templates, select a change type to see its configured actions. You can:

  • Edit existing actions — change the description, department, or action type
  • Add new actions to a template
  • Remove actions that are not relevant

Changes to templates only affect future ECRs and ECs. Existing changes keep the actions they were created with.

Beyond the seven built-in action types (UPDATE_BOM, CANCEL_PO, AMEND_PO, etc.), you can define custom action types for situations specific to your organisation. Custom types appear alongside standard types when manually adding actions.

In addition to template-driven actions, coordinators can click Suggest actions on any ECR or EC. Redline uses AI to analyse the change context (title, description, change type, affected items) and suggest additional preliminary actions that the template may not cover.

AI suggestions are clearly labelled and must be explicitly accepted by the coordinator.
