Departments & assignees

Departments determine how action items are grouped and who receives notifications. Configure them in Settings → Departments.

Redline comes with six standard departments:

  • Engineering — BOM updates, design changes
  • Procurement — PO cancellations, amendments, new orders
  • Production — Production order updates, manufacturing BOM reviews
  • Assembly — Assembly-level changes
  • Quality — Inspection and verification tasks
  • Service — Field change orders, customer notifications

You can rename these or add custom departments to match your organisation.

Each department has a default assignee — the person who receives action items when no specific user is assigned. Set this in Settings → Departments → Default assignees.

When an action list is generated, each action is automatically routed to the default assignee for its department. You can override the assignee on individual action items before releasing the ECO.

For departments where the assignee is not a Redline user (e.g., an external supplier contact or a production floor lead who only uses email), add them as contacts. Contacts receive email notifications but do not need a Redline login.

Configure how quickly Redline escalates overdue actions:
